Caswell Beach

Adjacent to Oak Island, NC is the small seaside town of Caswell Beach. With a population of around 400, Caswell Beach has the honor of having the brightest lighthouse in the United States and second brightest in the world! The light from the US Coast Guard Station can be seen nearly 24 miles offshore by ships… Rich in history, Caswell Beach was named after Fort Caswell which was built in 1825. Located at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, the sole purpose of the Fort was to protect ships traveling along the river from pirates such as Blackbeard, who made Southport and Bald Head Island their safe haven. Today, Caswell Beach is a family oriented beach where you can enjoy many activities such as beach combing, surfing, swimming and turtle watching. During May to August, female turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs.
